Well done! I had a similar idea for the jam but I never got my reincarnation engine quite working right so it's interesting for me to see something like this actually working.
It's a bit hard to criticise because I think the levels not being finished is the main thing wrong with the game. Personally I'm not a fan of how slow the reincarnation process is. I think a quicker reincarnation would be more fun and flow better. If you continue working on this I think I'd want to see more switching between characters and environments that can't just be traversed by a single character.
Thank you for playing! To be honest, I'd say 50% of my time making the game was spent on making sure the reincarnation bit worked properly. Initially, it was instantaneous, but it felt a bit cheap and like I was promoting speedrunning. My idea for the puzzles was to be more calm and relaxed, and something you would try to limit the number of times you needed to reincarnate yourself. Sadly, I didn't have time to flesh them out at all since I really wanted to add dialogue branching, as well. (It was a personal goal of mine even before the theme was announced.)
Very cute art style! There's a solid game mechanic in the short levels that exist. The cat only being able to climb certain walls is a bit confusing. I had fun and wanted to see what every dialogue choice led to, even if it meant being a bit rude sometimes!
I can't speak for Slartibartfast but you could definitely turn this into a great, full game now that you aren't on a time limit.
And, seriously, placing a bunch of blocks to make a level is a lot more involved than it sounds.
That means a lot that you went through all the dialogue options! That was definitely the part that was the most fun for me to implement. I wanted to add more levels just to have more dialogue, but as you said, placing blocks just became too time-intensive. All these nice comments are definitely making me feel like I should continue with the game, so I might just do that. :)
Great Shapeshifting concept in a game that finds a cool merger between Undeads and a very light & fun mood/scenery. Enjoyed walking around in that pretty world and have Vampire-Boy tell us some of his tales every once in a while!
This really is a great concept! I'd love to see this fleshed out more into an actual puzzle platformer. Also, great job experimenting with branching dialogue. That is something I'd like to try out some day as well. Great work with you submission!
Totally get that. I originally thought of a puzzle idea but then I quickly decided against it as I wasn't much of a puzzle platformer player and didn't think that I could make any decent level design. I'm sure with practice though it would all come together.
The humour of the vampire lord is perfect! Even if the game per se is still incomplete, we laughed a lot and it definitely has potential if you expand on it in the future. :)
